RANGE OF MARINE SHAFT SEALING
MARINE SHAFT SEALING
WATER LUBRICATED
HOLLEX SEAL
The Hollex seal has a new design. It is used with water lubricated stern gear installations. It works according to an entirely different principle than conventional seals. It seals axially, that is to say along the length. A sliding ring made of high quality stainless steel is mounted onto the shaft. It rotates with its smoothly polished surface against a P.T.F.E. counter sliding ring. This counter sliding ring is mounted in a vesconite housing, which is suspended flexibly in a rubber bellow. Due to the relatively small sealing areas only minimal radial movement is allowed, especially with the smallest diameters. Therefore the Hollex seal must always be installed as close to the fore bearing as possible. With its low frictional resistance, the life span of the Hollex Seal is much longer than that of a conventional seal .There will be no grooves due to the wearing of the packing or the lip seal, so the shaft can rotate freely.
Tides Marine Series One Seal
The Series One seal by Tides Marine is applicable for water lubricated sterngear systems. This seal is made of high quality composite material, that will not absorb water and handles temperature changes well. A water inlet is fitted as a standard on the Series One. The seal should be lubricated by the engine’s cooling water. The high flexible bellow will follow any shaft movement. The actual sealing is done by one lip seal.
Tides Marine SureSeal, For Single Engine Installations
The Tides Marine SureSeals are suitable for water lubricated sterngear installations. This seal is made of a high quality composite material, that is very endurable and will not absorb water. The material handles temperature changes well. The SureSeals have high flexible bellows and come with a water inlet fitted as a standard. The seal should be lubricated by the engine’s cooling water time as the SureSeal, a special Carrier kit can be slipped onto the shaft. These units allow lip seal replacement to be performed without releasing the shaft from the trans- -mission. And, if necessary, this replacement can be done while the vessel is in the water. SureSeals are ABS and Lloyd’s approved.
Tides Marine SureSeal, For Twin Engine Installations
This SureSeal unit has exactly the same abilities and advantages as the SureSeal for single engine installations, only this SureSeal is supplied with two water injections points. One inlet is for the suppy of cooling water from the engine, and one inlet is used to connect the seal to the second seal on the second sterngear installation. When only one engine is running, both seals will remain lubricated.

GREASE LUBRICATED
Carco Seal
Carco lip seals are applied in almost every sterntube system, regardless of the lubrication. Lip seals are only applicable with housing, because lip seals are always mounted by meansof axial confinement. They are treated with the brandname Carcoflon coating. This seals the gap perfectly, they are self-lubricating and have a very low friction coefficient. The axial tension is provided by the built-in stainless steel spring.
Carco Seal – Split
Carco lip seals are applied in almost every sterntube system, regardless of the lubrication. Lip seals are only applicable with housing, because lip seals are always mounted by means of axial confinement. Uniquely, these seals are also available in a “split” version. This simplifies main- -tenance, because the propeller shaft installation does not need to be dismantled. With this design the rubber at both ends are a little softer with a guarantee to a perfect closure of the lip seal. Carco lip seals are treated with the brandname Carcoflon coating. This seals the gap perfectly, they are self-lubricating and have a very low friction coefficient. The axial tension is provided by the built-in stainless steel spring.
